In what is singularly the largest building project since the Guinness restoration in the 1860s, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, has launched a major fund–raising appeal to replace entirely the slates on the higher roofs of the building.

And, very imaginatively, members of the congregation, together with other worshippers, and visitors in person, and online, are being given the chance to follow in the philanthropic footsteps of the Guinness dynasty through sponsoring a slates, or slates, which, in an interesting quirk of history, are being sourced…
