The government found itself embroiled in another controversy last week when it was revealed that their plans to offer Northern Irish women abortions free of charge in England includes to children under the age of 16.
The children would have their travel and accommodation costs paid for as well as the free abortion. Crucially though, the government have not made any requirements for the child to need parental consent for the procedure.
The age of consent across the UK is 16, with sex under the age of 16 being illegal.
