Applications are sought for the position of Secretary General of the Church of Ireland and Chief Officer of the Representative Church Body. This combined role has responsibility for ensuring that the central decision–making bodies of the Church of Ireland are appropriately informed and resourced, and that effective support and administration services are provided to the central organisation of the Church.
The Representative Church Body (RCB) is the corporate charitable trustee for the Church of Ireland, holding properties and endowments in trust for parishes, dioceses and the Church as a whole. The role of Chief Officer, reporting to the RCB through its Executive Committee, is responsible for managing the functions of the RCB in accordance with decisions of the RCB and its committees. The role involves leading the organisation’s senior management team, and its staff in Dublin and Belfast, across five main functions: Synod Services & Communications, Finance, Property & Trusts, Investments and Legal.
The role of Secretary General has responsibility for working collaboratively with the Honorary Secretaries of the General Synod, which is the ultimate decision–making authority of the Church of Ireland, to ensure the delivery of work arising from decisions of Synod and to foster collaboration between the Synod and the RCB.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader who includes and mobilises stakeholders, who is strategic and has a track record of success in delivery and capacity–building in an organisation with complex financial and governance structures. He/she will have an empathy with the mission and values of the Church of Ireland and will ideally bring a good understanding of the structures of the Church.
