Carrauntoohil in County Kerry is the tallest mountain in Ireland (3406′). for many years, a cross, originally wooden and then metal, has stood at its peak. Recently, however, the cross was cut down by vandals. The people of Beaufort village, close to Carrauntoohil, decided that this state of affairs should not continue and so, by sure human force, dragged welding and other equipment to the top of the mountain and re-erected the cross. The whole restoration project is described by Tim Murphy in the February issue of the Methodist Newsletter.
