Remembrance Tide Approaches
This year, as remembrance tide approaches there will be a particular emphasis on the events of World War I and the Church of Ireland is seeking to relate to this in a number of ways. In many parishes there has been much local research, centred on parish war memorials on those who fought and those who died and they will be a particular focus for remembrance.
The Liturgical Advisory Committee has produced ‘A Service of the Word for a commemoration of the First World War In a Local Church’. It has been posted on the Church of Ireland Worship page http://ireland.anglican.org/worship from where it can be downloaded and reproduced locally. The LAC hopes that this will prove beneficial to those parishes wishing to commemorate the centenary of the start of World War 1 on Remembrance Sunday, or at some other appropriate time.
Next month, on 19 November, the Centenaries Working Group will mark the outbreak of World War I with ‘Ethics of War’ in Christ Church cathedral, Dublin. This will take the form of a lecture by the Revd Professor Niger Biggar from Oxford who will speak on the the based on his recent book, …read more
