Preparations are now well in hand for Conference 2015 during which Irish Methodism will bid a fond farewell to Secretary of Conference the Rev Donald Ker who is retiring this June. During the eight years in which Donald has held the office of Secretary of Conference he has provided strong leadership and made a valuable contribution to the work of the Methodist Church not only in Ireland but also in Europe and beyond. In the May Methodist Newsletter he talks about his multi-faceted role and shares some of his perceptions of contemporary church life, revealing how highly he prizes the pastoral aspect of his ministry. He tells columnist Lindsay Eason that the theme of Discipleship will be well to the fore in this year’s Conference ‘as members reflect on what it means to be faithful in a culture that, in some respects, is becoming more distant from the Church’.

The May magazine also brings an interview with Sandra Ker who alongside her husband has played a significant role in church and community both north and south of the border.
