Methodist College’s annual Easter Concert took place last night in the Waterfront Hall for the 18th consecutive year. As ever, this event, showcasing the work of the wide range of musical groups within the school, drew a large, appreciative audience. The programme included items from the four school choirs, the junior orchestra, senior orchestra, jazz band and traditional Irish group. There was also superb performance of a gigue by J S Bach from fifth form pupil Donal McCann who has just won Eton College’s prestigious Lloyd Weber Foundation Music Scholarship.
After the interval the senior choir and orchestra (supplemented by a small number of guest players) gave a moving performance of John Rutter’s requiem, with soloists Caroline Woods, Joe Zubier, Angus McCall (cello) and Holly Hewitt (oboe). The performance was conducted by Methody’s director of music, Mrs Ruth McCartney MBE.
