The March organ recital in St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral, Armagh will be given by Professor Desmond Hunter on Sunday 22 March 2015 at 4.15 p.m.
In a career spanning over forty years, Desmond Hunter has achieved international distinction as an organ recitalist. The recipient of organ–playing awards at conservatoire, national and international levels, Desmond has given numerous solo concerts throughout Europe and in the USA and Canada. At an early stage in his career he was a concerto soloist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under Sir Charles Groves and was invited to give an organ recital in the Royal Festival Hall, London.
A former student of Flor Peeters at the Antwerp Conservatoire, where he was awarded the ‘Premier Prix avec Grande Distinction’ and the Verrept–Brouwers prize, which is a biennial award for the interpretation of the organ music of Bach, Desmond was invited to give the ‘Herdenkingsconcert Flor Peeters’ in Antwerp Cathedral in 2003, to celebrate the centenary of Flor Peeters’s birth.
