Biblical storyteller, Wendy Johnston will take a preaching workshop on ‘Telling God’s Story’ in Dundrum Methodist Church, County Dublin, on Saturday 28 March. Recently, she talked to Anne Hailes about her storytelling journey, beginning with her first experiences of stories as a child, the daughter of missionary parents, growing up in Papua New Guinea. ‘I love telling the stories of Jesus,’ she says. ‘There’s so much in the words and there’s humour there too, so you can put expression into the telling. I visualise the story: where it’s set, who would have been there, what they would have been wearing, what was the culture of the time.’
You can read Wendy’s interview, with its insights into her background and her tips on storytelling, in the next Methodist Newsletter. For Belfast readers, April also brings the opportunity to hear Wendy in action as she will be telling the Easter story at lunchtimes during Holy Week, Monday to Thursday, in Knock Methodist Church.
