A common concern about the shape and style of the leadership of the Methodist Church in Ireland in the coming decades could be discerned running through a number of important papers presented to the January meeting of the General Committee.
Reporting on the business, Dr Fergus O’Ferrall notes that discussion took place on how ‘district superintendents might be appointed on a part-time basis in circuits to facilitate them serving as mission enablers and taking on more Connexional co-ordination and strategic leadership responsibilities.’
The principles behind such a reform met with general acceptance and a wider Connexional discussion will follow on the practical issues that need to be addressed.
A full report of the meeting will appear in the next issue of the Methodist Newsletter.
