The decision of the Irish Methodist Conference of 2012 to permit City Missions in limited circumstances to apply for Lottery funding prompted much debate on the pages of the Methodist Newsletter. The decision was subsequently rescinded by the Conference of 2013. This week’s Church of Ireland Gazette reports the recent announcement of the Heritage Lottery Fund that £15m of non-Lottery money has been made available to fund grants for places of worship across the UK.

HLF explained that the money was announced in the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s Autumn Statement and will be administerd by HLF’s parent body, National Heritage Memorial Fund.

The programme will be managed from the South West of England, although it will have a UK-wide remit. The closing date for submitting applications is 30 January 2015.
