Open rehearsal of Britten’s War Requiem in St Anne’s Cathedral.
Britten’s War Requiem in the stunning setting of St Anne’s Cathedral gets underway at 7.45pm tonight (Friday November 14).
The Dean of Belfast, the Very Rev John Mann, was among those who attended an Open Rehearsal last night, and he gives a taste of what wonders lie ahead for tonight’s capacity audience.
“The 200 singers and 100 instrumentalists create an atmosphere from one end of the cathedral to another that is at times shocking with its sheer power in reflecting the noise and horror and suffering of war, yet there are moments of ethereal beauty when we are swept away with the angels to heaven,” Dean Mann said.
“This is a huge piece, conceived by Britten, performed with raw emotion and a gift to all who will engage with it tonight.”
The concert is currently sold out.
