Statement by the Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, Rt Rev Ken Good, following the death of Mr Paddy Harte

I am greatly saddened to learn of the death of the former Irish Government Minister, Paddy Harte.

Mr Harte devoted a huge part of his life to politics, representing his party, Fine Gael, in a variety of roles: County Councillor, TD and, for a time, Minister of State at the Department of Posts and Telegraphs.

Paddy was a dedicated servant of the public generally, and an especially good friend to Donegal’s Protestant community. He was sensitive and responsive to the needs and concerns of this minority, and used his understanding – and his impressive political skills – to further peace and reconciliation…
